MEDIATION is one of the competitions at Epicentrum Unpad (an International Communication Competition held by the Faculty of Communication Science at Padjadjaran University). MEDIATION is organized by the Media Production Management program, a part of FIKOM UNPAD (Faculty of Communication Science, Padjadjaran University). In Mediation 2023, the sub-theme addressed is “Virtual is Reality: It’s Time to Get Real About Cyberbullying.” Aside from facilitating students in presenting their digital works, Mediation 2023 aims to contribute to raising awareness and concern within society regarding the issue of violent acts, such as cyberbullying.
The rise in cyberbullying cases coincides with the increased needs of society, technological advancements, and intensive interactions in the digital world. Cyberbullying commonly occurs among individuals who have not yet mastered the judicious use of social media. Even though cyberbullying victims do not experience direct physical harm, they often endure negative psychological effects such as loss of self-confidence, social incapacity, and withdrawal from their surroundings. Another perilous consequence is the disruption of the victim’s mental well-being, leading to self-harm and suicide attempts.
On this occasion, Sudah Dong was invited to be one of the speakers in the webinar session. The event was initiated by a lecturer from FIKOM UNPAD and followed by a presentation by Sudah Dong volunteer, Ety Suharyani, who served as a resource person on the topic of Cyberbullying. Besides explaining what Cyberbullying is in this digital era, Ety also elucidated the psychological impacts experienced by both perpetrators and victims of cyberbullying. Additionally, Ety provided insights into steps individuals can take when witnessing cyberbullying to become proactive bystanders. The event concluded with a Q&A session and the presentation of awards by colleagues from Fikom UNPAD.
